Here is the bottom line. It isn't the employees that are truly at fault. It is the company itself. If the company would just post a decent care sheet next to the animals cage all of this would be solved. Either the employees read it and then spit the info back out or have the customers read it directly.
I don't expect the employees to go out and research all of this stuff for themselves. They aren't getting paid enough for that. The company they work for should provide the info to them and have them read it. (as a high school age intern at an engineering company I was expected to know the entire ethical code (about 50 pages) by the end of my first week. I didn't even get paid there yet) reading something and having the correct information available to reference isn't too big a deal even at minimum wage.
