Battery backup

I am thinking of picking up a battery backup because we have a ton of power outages here and I want to make sure it doesn't take out the herpstat I am about to get. Does this seem totally unnecessary? It is for one enclosure so power won't be a huge problem. I can't think of any negative side effect it would have on the thermostat but and couldn't find any info on it from Spyder Robotics.

I'm confused, are you worried about the thermostat being damaged or your babies getting cold? Which Herpstat are you getting?

You will need to get a battery backup that has a pure sine wave output, most battery backups and electric backup generators produce dirty power that sensitive electronics (like proportional thermostats and high end computers) can't handle.

Pure sine wave battery backups cost a fortune (i know because my computer required one ). You would be better off just getting a good surge protector and some 40 hour heat packs.

Losing power generally does not hurt a Herpstat. When it gets power again it will go back to the same settings it had before it lost power.

Thanks so much I did contact Dion. I was just thinking it would better protection for the thermostat. I will just get a good surge protector and leave it at that. I didn't know how sensitive the thermostats were and an APC battery backup won't cut it. Sometimes I overdo it and in this case it could have been bad news an a waste of money.

It probably won't work, pure sine wave devices usually use that fact as a selling point. Simulated Sine wave while better than a regular unit still won't work with sensitive equipment.

I don't believe that is a pure sine wave. I was lookin at couple batteries to power a couple studio flashes and the cheap one started at $300 US. That is just battery power with a pure sine wave inveter. It will be more if it a battery backup I imagine.

I think the surge protection will be the best option. Your incubator should hold heat pretty well if you are without power for an hour or two. I hope that is the case. Better then having a dead thermostat. Correct me if I am wrong.
