my experiences are that they came from the pet store where you purchased your live feeders. or they came in on a new animal. either way, it all depends on the severity of the infestation, if not bad than a spray down with prevent-o-mite should do the trick, if heavier soaks, vet visit etc may be needed. basically how i handle the lil blood suckers.

Daily bleach water everything a 1/10 mix of it, let air dry, then i spray everything down with the PAM each week, not just the tubs, but the racks especially, a real heavy wet coat at first on the rack, and even the flooring around it, , let it air dry completely, then your general misting of the tubs. Newspaper or paper towels for bedding, then every animal goes through an olive oil lube for about 30 mins at a shot daily until they are gone, (helps suffocate the buggers to death, and wont harm the animal). If they have been really infested a mix of betadine, peroxide, and luke warm water mix, (should look like a weak hot tea mixture), soak for a few mins to clean the bites and any sores you do not see. (also aids in suffocating the buggers as well), but only if they are real bad. and lots of white rubber gloves. If you feel the need to use the "Tea" mix i would advise a vet visit as well.
