Later the manager realizes they are here for the convention, which gives them a $5 discount, so he gives the $5 to the bellboy to bring to the businessmen. The bellboy, figuring the gentlemen couldn't split $5 evenly, pockets $2 and gives $3 to the gentlemen. Thus each man has paid $9 and the bell boy pocketed $2 (9x3=27+2=29). Where did the extra dollar go?

Play on words, and you have to subtract from the total, not per person. Technically the bell boy took $2 making the room cost $28, not $27. So each man paid $9.33 with an extra penny from one guy.
