    Optimum Cage Dimensions

I am growing a little frustrated with all of the conflicting information in the world wide web.

What I want to know is, in YOUR OPINION, what is the OPTIMUM cage size for an average sized adult ball python. I'm not too concerned about height, mostly length and width.

Please respond with dimensions only, and not some weird rule of thumb about the length of the snake and how it relates to the sum of the length and width of the enclosure. We are talking an average sized adult , lets say 4.5-5 feet just to keep things consistent with everyone's response.

Everyone's opinion would be much appreciated

Remember, I am looking for the optimum size, not one that is simply adequate.

Thank you very much for your time

    I use 4 foot x 2 foot x 1 foot cages (L x W x H)

The minimum is 1 square foot of floor space per foot of BP. More is ok but you don't want to go much bigger than a 4x2

You're asking for a specific answer to a subjective question. Not the best way to start a conversation, but let the fun begin...

Now, go out and find an Iris MCB-L tub and measure the length and width. That would optimally be optimum for an optimum adult male BP. Now, since you're already at the snake tub store, get an Iris CB-70 tub and measure the length and width of it. That would optimally be optimum for an optimum adult female.

Of course, we all know that some males will optimally grow larger than some females, and that optimally some females may not get large enough to occupy a CB-70 tub, so in the end, your optimal mileage may vary.

EDIT: I think I may have broken some of your rules for responding to this thread. Just call me a First Amendment Outlaw...

In the wild they spend a lot of their time in the burrow of their last meal. Those aren't very big.

I'd vote 2'x4'x any height for an adult. That seems to be the consensus around here.

    I agree, 4 x 2 x 1. I wouldn't put a big ball python in anything smaller.

    Completely agree with Slim!
But, for the purpose of this thread one of the most popular sized tubs for adult BP's is roughly 41qts. Whether it be the CB-70, the V-70 or a similar 41qt tub. The size of them is roughly 34-36"x16-18"x5-6".

    41qts so like 3' x 1.5'
Thats what i keep all mine in. And 4.5-5ft is like an avg for females. Males tend not to get that big. Just sayin...
