Herp laws can get very complicated, you need to check at every level.
-Federal
-State
-County
-city/town

Then check on native/invasive speciec laws.

These laws could fall under different branches as well.
- fish and game
- animal control
- Health dept (?)


My advice is to contact your local herp society (if there is one), they would probably be your best resource.
