    Questions about quarantine

I figured I would post my questions about quarantine here. I know that the quarantine rack should not be in the same room as the rest of my snakes, but how far away does it need to be? Is the next room over ok? Or a space outside of the reptile room ok? Or does it really need to be completely across the house? The reason I ask is the back part of my house, which is my critter's part of the house, is set up like this; walk into the laundry room and it goes to the back part of the house. Walk into a small hallway-ish and on the left is my reptile room, on the right is the door to garage/dog training room, followed by a nook that use to be a closet that is now gutted and straight forward is my dog grooming area. I was wondering if the nook/closet could be turned into a small quarantine area, even with it being across a small hall. Other wise I will see about setting a up a rack in my room. Thanks in advance for any responses

I would think next room over is fine, as long as there isnt any cross contamination happening ie, washing hands between snakes, not letting snakes roam around etc...

Some people here are more anal than others about it. I personally QT one room away at minimum. It is believed mites are the key transmitter of snake related diseases. So I always pre-treat a new snake's enclosure with Provent-A-Mite as a preventative. I wait about 6 weeks or so to make sure there are no mites or signs of illness before moving to the main room. Some people wait only a month. Some wait a whole year. Some burn their clothes and soak in disinfectant after leaving the quarantined area.

Do what you feel is comfortable and feasible with for you. Others will chime in with their opinions. Use all of them to make your own conclusion. There's no exact science to this.
