Egg box substrate question

Ok so I plan on using the substrateless method when I do actually get some eggs and here's my question. I will still need the vermiculite correct? But I don't have to worry as much about adding too much water as the eggs will never come in contact with it correct? Or do I not need vermiculite at all and instead just use something to hold the light diffuser up away from the water?

Ok I got another question lol. going this route, do I still need to use the press and seal wrap. Also, is there ever a need to open the egg boxes during incubation?

Some people use press and seal, others do not. it depends on the humidity level inside the incubator.

yes, you do need to change out the air in the egg box every once and awhile

You don't need to use the vermiculite like Aaron said, but you'll need something to keep the water from sloshing around when you move the egg box. You don't want it sloshing onto the eggs.

Ok so do I need to have holes in the egg tubs? And how often do I need to do an air exchange?

No holes. I would do an air exchange once a week till the last two weeks then every couple of days and maybe every day during the last few days. Perhaps someone with more experience can chime in on that matter.

The benefit of having perlite or something like that for the light diffuser to sit on top of instead of just plain water is that it increases the surface area for evaporation making for higher humidity.

Using vermiculite, do I still need to follow the same rules as if I was not using the light diffuser as far as the water goes? Or can I just get it really moist?
