Salt Test
Ok, so I am salt testing one of my new hygrometers and I have a few questions.
1) How long do I let the hygrometer sit in the baggie before I get a good reading? I read both 12 and 6 hours.
2) I also want to salt test my other hygrometers. Do I have to make a whole new salt water bottle cap or can I just take the first hygrometer out of the baggie and put a new hygrometer in and wait the proper amount of time suggested above?
Thanks for the help.

I would wait 12 hours
I would use a new salt cap for each one.

OK, one follow on question. Is waiting longer going to affect anything? If I check this after 12 hours that is 3:30am and I don't plan on getting up that early. I will be up around 5:00am, is that ok?

Honestly, I don't know, everything that I have seen says wait 8-12 hours, but nothing about the effects of waiting longer. Maybe someone else knows.

It will make little difference if you wait longer as long as the baggie is air tight. Remember it is a hard environment for delicate resistive sensors so if it is a low priced digital unit shorter is better likely. Resistive sensors don't fair well in dirty, dusty and corrosive environments (urinate is bad for them too) The biggest problem with digital units they generally don't work well for long.
I do a salt test on all of mine 2 a year. Likely over kill but I hate not knowing.

might be of use too.

I have a Xikar hygrometer, and it's calibration instructions only required a 4 hour wait. I really don't know why the times vary so much...
