The speech went great. I went over some history and their native habitat, some husbandry and housing info, and went into why they make great pets. Said that only the largest of ball pythons will get over five feet, that my girl will probably be a good 5.5 feet because she's so big at two years. Also talked about why they are great with kids, that ball pythons will take more poking, prodding and other abuse that children are known for that other snakes would not. Told them that it would be wrong to leave them with the impression that ball pythons never get aggravated. While they are docile 99% of the time they do get stressed and mad sometimes. And that there are two types of bites, feeding response and defense and that you should get a baby so you can learn the signs over time. Said that most people will eventually get bitten and that it's not a big deal. I got her out while I was waiting the for projector to load and showed them how calm and cool ball pythons are. Then I talked about morphs and genetics, said that morphs are ball pythons with a special gene that causes them to have a different color and pattern, and that for a color or pattern to be a morph it must be genetic. Then I showed pictures of different morphs and talked about prices. In conclusion I said that anyone looking to adopt a ball python who doesn't want to spend a lot of money and wants a wild type or normal should look on craigslist. That sometimes you find very healthy and well fed snakes from people who know their stuff. But that's not always the case, sometimes you find very unhealthy and sick snakes. I said that I strongly belief in rescuing ball pythons and that I know people who adopt sickly ball pythons to bring them to health and either keep them or plan to find them a good home. I didn't get the A that I wanted. I got a B because I went almost four minutes over. Overall I am satisfied and have educated twenty people![]()
