    is this normal?

our baby has recently gotten his second hide (he had mites so we had to alternate for a while till they were gone), and we got flexwatt for under the tank. the temps are 90-93 on the warm side with the flexwatt and 80-83 on the cool side. but for some reason he acts afriad of the warm side and lately spends all his time in the cool side hide. is it safe for him to spend all his time on the cool side? when we take him out everyday he is cool to the touch and we just want to make sure that he is going to be alright. also if we do take out his cool side hide he sits where it was like " where did it go mom??". also he just shed and that is when it started do you think that that has anything to do with it? thanks in advance!!!!

Edit: i just realized that this has been discussed so just ignore it and i will follow suggestions from the other posts. sorry

i have heard of a few stories of snakes staying on the cool side. alot of people say that it is a natural thing for them to find a cool spot to hide. You said your snake has mites? i would think it would be best for it to be on the warm side because they seem to "heal" faster that way. i know it's a late response. i haven't been on this website for a while. i hope your snake is healthier now.

Just wondering, are both hides identical? Small clay pot bottoms, you know, the bowls that sit underneath clay pots and catch water, work well. They are round and low to the ground. Those half-log hides(if that is what you have) do not work well, and leave the snake out in the open. Just aren't a very secure hide.

I have noticed Amani spends alot of time over in her cool side hide, but occassionally she'll be over on the warm side. It's not too big of a deal, as the cool side is 83-85 all of the time.

Just so the hides are identical, then I don't think you'll have a problem. Although I would up the warm side temps to 93-95 and the cool side to 82-84. Helps the snake be a consistent eater. Hope that helps a bit.
