Went to Petsmart and to my surprise....

They had a Red Tail Boa marked as a "Common Boa" For $110 (I think). At least it looked healthy and fat. Shoulda takin some pictures but I didnt have a camera with me.

Im not into the world of boas. So I dont know if that was right pricing or even the right name for it. Seemed weird.

Theres two main"red tails"(that I know of), true red tails are Boa constrictor constrictor(BCC) and then Boa constricor imperator (BCI), are what is reffered to as the common boa.

As for the price yes that is about right. Although I paid $90 for my boa, Critter Barn is the cheapest place around.

Re: Went to Petsmart and to my surprise....

From the little I know about boas, a "common" boa is generally a BCI and a BCC is a "true red tail"...so I put my money on it being a BCI, and for a pet store, the price is right in the ballpark.

I saw two BCC in the same cage for sale at PetCo for that price. I was only there to get a new bulb for my heat lamp, it burned out on me and it was supposed to be a cold night. I also saw a dead ball python that had been crushed under five others all trying to curl up on the same heat source. I actually got emotional and would have just left if I didn't need the bulb and couldn't wait for one to come in the mail if I bought online. I never shop at PetCo or PetSmart unless it is a heating emergency like that, I just end up upset.

It is almost certainly a normal BCI. True Red Tails (BCC) are actually pretty rare in the petshop trade although it has happened. But the BCI are much more common. And while $110 is what I would expect for a petstore price, it is still what I would consider overpriced for a normal boa. You can find a nice normal Colombian BCI on kingsnake or fauna for as little as $30-40....
