Yea i handle my bps pretty regularly, but its not like they enjoy it too much lol. If i got a hogg island i know they stay smaller but how long do you think i could keep her in 41qt tub for? Im sure id end up taking her out alot. This summer im almost positive ill be getting an apartment with friends so at that point id be able to get her a nice pvc cage bc id have more room for it...

A 41qt tub has the same floor space as a 40gal breeder tank. A baby boa would do fine in that for at least it's first year. Mike, I agree with everyone else - you should get one!!!

I love this! I love when we can all post media of our pets just being pets. How many YouTube videos are there of cats doing EXACTLY this and people think it is just the cutest thing, but when a snake does it, suddenly we're weird and our key boards are covered in salmonella.

I'm getting my little female Hog this Tuesday, and I must say that (personally) I don't like my boas over my balls/other snakes or vice versa (my boas don't make by ball seem "boring" or anything like that). Everyone is a joy to handle, they just have different personalities.

Mike, I have my current 3 boas in tubs and they are all doing great so a tub wouldn't be a problem, but I would recommend at least a 4' cage (or 6' for the larger Hogs since some can become just as large as Colombians) when it becomes an adult. Also, there's no such thing as a HOGG island boa...it's HOG with only one "g"

I thought HOG, sorry for the mispelling lol , Island boas stayed smaller? I read before males are like 4' and females are like 6'. If i bought one i would make sure its a PURE one. Boas are supposed to be not as heavy bodied as pythons though right so they dont seem as large as they are?
Does anyone have a good link for a hog island care sheet? A gooooood one.
P.s.- sorry to hijack the thread xfenrir

^ They usually do (stay smaller), but I've seen pure females get up to 7-8' before, it's better to plan ahead in case you get a female who does get larger. But yes, the norm is that they stay smaller then Colombians.

When you get into the adults/big adults they are strong (and IMO a little harder to handle than big ball pythons are since they like to go everywhere and explore while balls usually just chill out), and adult Colombians can get to be 30+ pounds. Like mentioned though I wouldn't worry about this with the smaller "dwarf" boas, but they still have very muscular bodies. If you get a baby you can grow with it and learn to handle it as it grows.

^lol you kinda contradicted yourself so im confused... Soooo if i get a female, which im 100% sure is what id want, and its a hog island it Could get to be 7'-8' and 30lbs but most likely she wont get that big if i get a pure one? If i get a baby ill get used to handling her so i should be fine.

A female Hog Island should stay closer to 5-6ft as an adult. They can get bigger, but usually don't. A 4x2 enclosure will be fine for an adult female Hoggie and that 41qt tub will do for her for some time.

A good care sheet for a Hoggie is a good one for any boa - their care requirements are about the same. Check out the Boa Caresheet on this forum and a really good book is Vin Russo's "Complete Boa Constrictor" which you can get through Reptile Basics or directly through Vin's site Cutting Edge Herps. I love the book myself - it's very informative! And there's lots of info on Vin's site even though there isn't a specific caresheet there. Vin works with a lot of the insular localities like the Hog Islands and Sabogae.
