Hey Mods this need to be a sticky. Everyone can be involved in changing public opinion. If you do nothing but assist your child in a show and tell at school. We may not have the money like HSUS but we do have the people... Also never be afraid to tell others what HSUS is really all about. It takes effort people.

I will add an idea to this thread. Volunteer to be a merit badge counselor with the Boy Scouts for the Herp merit badge. Also offer to give demonstrations to the local troops about reptiles.

Don't forget about the Girls! I don't think we had a specific herping badge, but I remember a lot of animal care and husbandry ones.
(Especially because my friend's little girl went to a boy scout event and decided she didn't want a pet that "fell apart" and got a Bearded Dragon instead of a gecko! The presenter was a tad biased and also insisted on rat sausages for corn snakes so the kids wouldn't get traumatized... )
Mostly Leos and Cresties, but also
1.0 Human (wild caught next door, but taming nicely)
