Noob breeder

So I posted a thread about my first lock and now I have a few questions. I gather from reading that from first lock to eggs is like 8months. But my question is, do females produce follicles anyways, or only after locking? Also since this lock is so late and it's her first ever, are the chances of not producing higher? And after locking do you think she will eat again? It's been since November since she's eaten. She's only lost about 100g. And most of that came after a big poop. Lol. Thanks in advance for your helps.

I think they always produce them, but I'm not 100% sure. Most of the females I've worked with go off feed a couple of meals after the lock. Production shouldn't be affected as long as the female was the right weight to begin with.

They will build follicles without locking if all the conditions are right and if they are being paired with a male or cooled. They always have follicles, however if and when they decide to grow them (build) is up to them but will usually be set off by seasonal changes and introductions to males.

My first lady took from August to late march early June to lay. Yeah that's just over 8 but ya never know. They work on their own schedule and love to test our patience. Ya never know. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones that likes to please

Youll drive yourself crazy trying to count before you see an ovulation. Only after the ovy can you guess how many days to shed, to eggs, to hatching....if they go at all. On the other hand, you can be caught off guard if your girl decides to go sooner. One of my girls was paired for the first time on 1/1 and she ovulated 2/29!

Almost every female I've bred that wasn't eating well did so after starting to lock up.
If they don't eat well they have a higher chance of throwing slugs, it's important for the female to go on her feeding frenzy after pairing her.
Luckily most do just that, so if you see her acting hungry all of a sudden, acting like she wants to take your head off when you open the tub/enclosure, then that's the time to start offering her more meals.
She needs those meals especially if she's been off feed since November, good luck

thanks snakesrkewl. Thats exactly the info i need. So they were locked up from 4ish yesterday till this morn when i woke up they werent. I took him out. 3 days rest then back in right?

I know I posted on your other thread, but he doesn't need to go right back in with her. The 3 in/out is so the male gets at least that much break when breeding multiple females. You can keep them apart for a couple of weeks before reintroducing.
