I am a RN and have seen folks get this surgery tons of times. It is almost always laproscopic (2-3 very small incisions) and you are back to normal within a week or two. Often the final decision on whether to just remove the cyst or remove the ovary will be made by the surgeon when he sees what is going on. And that may not even be an issue depending on the size seen on ultrasound. In the grand scheme, it is not really an issue since you have 2 of them and fertility remain intact with one gone.

My ex had a cyst removed and wished she had the ovary removed because the cysts returned. So that is something to keep in mind.

Best advice I can give you is keep a positive outlook and get up and moving ASAP after the surgery (Do not run a marathon, but do not firmly plant on the couch either). It promotes healing and prevents complications.

Thanks everyone! Those little reassurances are exactly what I need to hear to calm my nerves! My appointment is at 320 this afternoon so I'll let you guys know how it goes!

Not to impose religion, but, if you had faith it would be a lot easier to deal with thing like this. Just my 2 cents.

Oh I have faith, just not in a deity.

I have faith that I have an excellent dr and a well trained, very educated team that backs him and they will take care of everything they possibly can.

Well the cyst is about 98% of my ovary. I've got surgery scheduled for monday at 830am.

Idk how old you are but will this make it harder for you to concieve or have kids or anything? Good luck with the surgery! My grandma just had open heart surgery so i can understand sorta wht youre going through. Hang in there

I'm 27 with no kids yet; and yes, if they have to remove the ovary it can make it harder to conceive.

I have a family member who has had a similar procedure done. She went in for surgery early morning and was able to make it home for lunch with no problem. It is not an uncommon procedure. Because of that, doctors these days have a pretty good idea of what they are doing... You will be in and out of there like it was no big thing!

It should be something like a laparoscopy surgery. It shouldn't be too awful, but you'll be sore of course. It's a pretty simple procedure that won't leave you with big scars. I've been to several docs for my endometriosis which is more or less tissue scaring on the uterus and ovaries. For me the surgery isn't worth it because it will just keep coming back and I have chosen not to go through with surgery until I start trying to get pregnant which at this point it might not even be possible. I've ended up in the ER a few times for it and put on morphine to ease the pain, it really sucks, so I know how bad you must feel! It is horrendous pain.

You can still have children with one ovary, don't stress about it too much.
