Stupid question but does anyone know if you remove the internal sensors and relocate them to wires if putting a connector in line will affect the accuracy of the reading. I want to be able to disconnect the leads.

It can be done there is a thread somewhere about doing it, but you have to be careful not to change the resistance too much by adding wire or connectors.

that's what I was worried about changing the resistance affecting the readings. I pulled one apart other day and the modification looks really simple but I would like to have a way to disconnect the wires from the thermometer .

They aren't terribly accurate anyway, I'm currently working on a better thermometer for us herpers but that project is still in it's infancy.

I would go ahead and give it a shot, worst case you have to go pick up a new one for $12. If you have a herpstat (or other thermostat with a really good probe) you can use that to verify that the accurate is still reading correctly.

I will, I am testing different sensors right now, I'm hoping to get a +/- 1 degree F accuracy

If you could get good accuracy and multiple probes you probably make bank. Good luck with it.

Hey Aaron,
Have you looked at crystal thermal sensors? I believe they have much greater accuracy than resistance sensors... not effected by increasing or decreasing resistance.

OP I would fully expect the mod to alter the temp but it should be reasonably consistent as long as the connections are good. You could 'calibrate' it with a note to add or subtract the error.
