I bought a freezer just for rats, but when I still lived an the apartment, they were in my freezer right next to my popsicles. Just creeped company out. Kept the friends from going through my fridge.

I tried looking for a freezer chest (just a freezer, no refrigerator) and I can't seem to find one for a reasonable price. They are all about $200 and up. Rather save the money for my animal plastics t8...

I only have one snake, and I won't even be storing 10 at at time, more like 4 or 5 at a time ... So it looks like I'll be freaking my mom and sisters out for the mean time haha

    Re: Storing frozen rodents

Lol, so many funny replies. People at work think I am gross/weird because I have dead rodents in my freezer. They are individualy wrapped in vacuum seal, then all inside a freezer ziploc, then inside their very own non transparent container from the $1 store. Hey, you do what you gotta do....

    Re: Storing frozen rodents

I know this is an old thread but have a question.....I ordered rats from online and am expecting them to come today. Can I place them in a deep freezer without any ill effects? My hubby used it to store his buck head he got a couple years ago.....and now it just has deer meat in it. How do they come packaged? Will I need extra freezer bags of my own to place them in?? Just the unknown that has me thinking here...lol. thanks for any replies.

You'll be fine. They should come individually packaged by size, and then packages will each contain a set number, depending on how many you ordered and from where and what sizes.

Pinky - Hopper mice are usually 100 per bag
    Small rats - 20 per
    Medium rats - 10 per
    Large rats - 5 per
    Jumbo - 3 per
    XXXL - 2 per

    Jumbo Mice - 25 per

Just open the box, check the bags, throw them in the deep freezer. I keep around 500 rats on hand and 20-50 rabbits + G pigs on hand at all time in a chest freezer.

How they come packaged will depend on who you ordered them from, but most I've seen come in plastic bags from the dealer.

You can put them in the deep freeze with no ill effects.

My mother-in-law stopped opening my refrigerator/freezer after the last time she did so and saw a pack of vacuum-sealed frozen feeders on top of the ice cream.

Come to think of it... she hasn't returned to the house since.
