Looking at getting a King snake

hey Im looking in to getting a King snake, a Banana Cali King to be exact, and I was wondering if any one has some pointers. I have my Normal Bp and have the general Idea down.
2.3 Ball Python (Thanatos(lesser cinnamon vanilla), Prince(banana vanilla dinker). Lucifer(normal), Snailtail(lesser cinnamon vanilla pastel), Nagini(normal))
    1.1 Red Tail Boa (Satin,Tiberius)
    0.1* Rottwieler (Lola)

    Very nice choice!

Colubrids are awesome snakes, my favorites. Iv owned multipule Kings and for the most part they are very docile, they play a tough game but once you swoop em up and show em whos boss you have no worries. BP's wont bite if their lives depended on it but a King will put you to the test. None the less the bites are painless.

Typical husbandry is to keep one side of the tank 80-85 and the other about 75. Humidity around 40%. Most kings can live in a 10gal for a good year (if you choose to go the tank route), tubs are alot easier to maintain humidity and heat, i choose tanks though because i dont like to hide my snakes, thats no fun

    Good luck with youre King!

Re: Looking at getting a King snake

Kings are fun...I used to keep a good variety of colubrids, mostly corns(BORING, I know). As drama pointed out with a king's temp/humidity requirements, they are different enough from a ball python that "getting the general idea" probably would not lead to a happy king snake, so good thing you posted asking about it.

Kings are an awesome snake to keep. They are feisty yet docile, and eat like they are starved hyenas even if they just ate 5 mins ago. IMO they are a great addition to any collection. Lots of fun to feed, mine are very aggressive with their strikes/constrictions. Just remember they require less heat and humidity than a BP. They also enjoy burrowing, espescially when they are young. I would recommend sani chips as substrate to facilitate this behavior. Very easy husbandry. Shed easily. Great eaters. Fun to handle. Maybe I'm just biased but I love em
