BP health concern
ok, brief preface. I have bred boa's and bp's in the past got. ex wife hated snakes so i sacrificed, turns out i got rid of the wrong animal(s)
got back into reptiles after a 4 yr break.
I have 5 snakes 2 boas 3 ball pythons knowing full well my collection will grow.
so i rescued a het albino female (225 grams) ball python recently. i was told she hasnt eaten in about 4 months
she was born 2 months before the het carmel albino female (850 Grams) that I picked up as well from the same owner.
I bought the het carmel and the seller gave me the other..
both snakes are 2010's
ok so i attempted to feed her a few times with no luck. finally i assist fed. she ate.. in the process i noticed a glue like substance almost sticking her jaw together is this a sign of RI or is this something all together different?
there is no bubbling, or discharge outside her mouth/nose, nor labored breathing. since she hasnt been eating there are no stool samples to have checked either
(i have only delt with RI one time in the past and it was a very mild case cleared up within a month with vet meds )
any input would be helpful
thanks in advance
Rob

Sounds like it might be a type of stomatitis. I would suggest a trip to the Vet to have a culture done.

Sounds more like mouth rot than a RI, and it can lead to worse infections such as an RI. Please make sure you sterilize EVERYTHING he is in and you touch before and after. I took a boa in years ago with a 'cheese' mouth that had to be pried open every time, and with antibiotics, we did oral back then and I think that helped with it being somewhat topical where the infection was, and I irrigated it twice a day gently with a syringe and lactated ringers. Eventually he got his mouth back, all infection subsided, and after a year of not eating he did, finally, on his own, after I had him for two months. He was a nasty tempered old man, but who could blame him. Might talk to the breeder on this one, it might be a result from injury in attempting to assist feed, too. Good luck!

Can you see any abrasions? Lesions? Anything around the instance? It does sound like some sort of possible infection going on. Is it yellow and old cheesy looking?

thanks
best description i can use to describe is rubber cement on your fingers almost a little stringy.. clear in coloration.
@ slim thanks I will take her is asap thank you
@ fila i thought that maybe a possibility but didnt notice any coloration. as far as the assist feed that is when i noticed it but only before attempting to assist feed her. but i am not sure if the previous owner had tried and either did it wrong, possibly even hurt her with his attempt.
@ homegrownscales. i have yet to see any lesions or abrasions
i do appreciate all the help

I'm wondering about mouth rot as well since it's so sticky. A vet visit might be needed.
