room temperature when using rubbermaids?
for those of you using tubs for your snakes what do you keep your room temps at? I tried it with just a heat pad in a house in the high 60's and it was no where near warm enough anywhere but right on top of the heat pad. Are you guys keeping your rooms at 80 degrees?

If you only have one BP I would recommend using a second heat pad on the cool side (with an additional t-stat) to maintain proper temps on the cool side if they are not within appropriate range.
Now if you have a larger collection having the room heated with an oil filled heater would be the best option.

My snake room is heated at 76 degrees while the rest of the house is at 68 degrees.

I run cool room set ups myself. Two UTH and T-stats to control them work to a point you still need to look to ambient AIR temps as well. UTH do very little for ambient temps. Sometimes a lamp or lots of insulation help solve this. Tubs can be a real pain in the situation you have there are very few options air temp control with a plastic tub.
The simple solution with plastic tubs is to heat the room tanks and custom enclosures offer more heating options that will effect the air temps more than a UTH.

I use an oil filled space heater controlled by a Ranco thermostat to maintain the ambient temperature in my snake room...

Curious.. why do you have the heater raised up from the carpet?
I also use an oil filled heater controlled by a Ranco thermostat, kept between 76 - 80 degrees.

When I was a kid, before space heaters had tip over switches, I knocked one over and burned the carpet. After the whipping I got for that, I've just always had this thing about space heaters and carpets. And that was about 35 years ago. Call it a life lesson...

Hmmm are we related...?? I knocked one over and didn't pick it up right away and melted the carpet too. I remember the whack on my butt vividly. I too keep them on the floor not carpet (stainless serving tray)

I had the same issue and I just said F the tub and plan on buying a cage from animal plastics along with heat tape and a radiant heat panel installed at the top of the cage. Problem solved.
