    Free Pickup -

I picked up this girlie this morning. I checked - definitely a girl.

She was in unpleasant conditions - 30% humidity, an exposed heat bulb in her enclosure. The enclosure consisted of a converted curio cabinet that was so dry the wood was splitting apart. I got a splinter just taking her out of the door. There was also no under or back heat - just the light bulb.

At least she had clean water, clean bedding and three hides.

The person I got her from at least knew she should be fed every week, but was feeding small mice to a 1462g snake instead of rats. At 2 years old she'd do well to get a few rats in her. The girl definitely gave taking care of her a good shot, but I think she forgot a few chapters on the care sheet.

So far there are no signs of RI, no burn marks, thought it looks like she may have been bit on her face (you can see on the first picture - there's a mark right above her eye, and one in the middle of her head too). Probably food biting back, as the girl fed her live mice.

Biggest concern is her eye. In this picture you can see a line running through her eye. It isn't a shadow/reflection. I'm thinking it might have been half of a stuck eyecap or something. She is very very dry and pointy and definitely in shed. In the second picture you can see squiggles on her other eye - yeah that eyecap wants OFF.

Now I have her in a smallish tub with a dish of water, I sprayed her down with reptile spray and I'm trying to get her humidity up to at least somewhere comfortable. Her underside feels like potato chips.

Either way - I'm super excited about this girl. She is amazingly calm and sweet. One of the girls dogs barked RIGHT in front of her face and she just laid there. Totally unphased. I already love her. Now she needs a name...

Thanks guys, I really am glad I found her. She's such a sweetheart.

I just checked on her - before I had misted her papertowels so they were just barely damp. But apparently that wasn't wet enough for her - so she dumped her entire water dish in there. I didn't have a spare digital thermo/hygro so I threw an old crappy dial hygro and a thermo in there just to get a good idea of where it is. Right now shes at an ambient "87" and around "90%" humidity.

I'm guestimating because I know they aren't really that accurate and I have to wait till my boyfriend gets home to go to the store to pick up a real digital therm/hygro. I figure anything is better than the 30% and exposed heat lamp..

Great pick-up and an awesome job giving her a home with the right environment. You should have her up to speed in no time. If she's made it to 1400+ grams on a mouse diet, she might just take off with rats on the menu.

As for a name, I'll suggest the obvious, Phoenix...

I like the name Phoenix, but I was planning on naming a fire that in the future.

I think I've settled on Naja.

I just checked on her and she's seemed to have settled in well. Sprawled out on her heating pad. I figured I'd give her a few hours on the soaked paper towels to let her underside absorb some. Gonna change that all out soon, but for now shes just chillin.

Slim took the words right outta my mouth. If she got to 1400g in 2 years on a mouse diet, she could quickly become a beast on some rats! Kudos for rescuing and good luck with her.

Not surprising, they don't have ears you know! I'm sure you were just referring to a large mammal all up in her business but I couldn't resist anyway.

Hehe yeah - that's where I was going with that. I think I was more startled than the snake was. Silly pompom dogs gettin all up in somebodys business.
