    Just rescued a King snake

I just rescued a king snake from my local petsmart. Someone brought it in the store and wanted to trade it in for a ball python. anyways they took the king and gave the guy credit towards a ball. I felt bad so I said I would take it so they gave it to me for free. I just had to buy a heating pad and aspen. anyways he seems to be cruising his new setup and exploring. I figured out why the guy didn't want him anymore. The guy said he keeps pooping on him..lol I laughed I said that isn't poop he's musking you. anyways I explained what that was and he went on his way with his new BP. The king is actually a pretty cool lookin banded king. I'll get some pics up of the snake later after he gets settled.

Re: Just rescued a King snake

I am trying to get this snake to eat. I am having the hardest time. I know the temps are correct. I covered the whole setup with construction paper. He ate before I got him cuz he pooped a couple days after I got him home. It's been 8 days now since I have had him. I tried feeding him a couple times and he acts interested but, still refuses. I am giving him frozen thawed mouse hoppers. He is about 2 ft long. I know he eats the F/T because thats what they gave him at petsmart. Maybe I'll try live.

I would wait it out a little bit longer before trying live bc then he may never go back. I have heard of people dipping the f/t head in lemon or tuna juice with ball pythons sometimes. Ive never tried this personally though.

no it wasn't wild caught I watched them feed it frozen at petsmart where I rescued it from. I talked with my local reptile store and they said everything I had going as far as setup and temps go I was good. They said just to wait it out and try again it could be just stress. I was thinking it was wild caught when I first seen it Methos cuz it seemed to musk more then a CB. Plus I live here in california and have seen allot of them. anyways it's only been 9 days since the last time it ate so I'm just gonna wait and try again. If that doesnt work then I guess I'll try live. Not a big fan but if it has to be done then so be it. Thanks guys!

ok well I actually got him to eat 2 hoppers. They were f/t, I actually fed him in his enclosure which I don't like to do either but I had to do it. He didn't seem to like being in a seperate enclosure while eating. He needed privacy I guess.

Nothing wrong with feeding in the enclosure. I would recommend it over taking them out to feed in a seperate tank. It stresses out your snake and youre more likely to get bit.

I agree about feeding in the enclosure. I always take the snake out... put the food in and put the snake back in... usually before I can put them down they are striking at their food! I love my kings!

I know this is an older thread so i might not get a reply but why do you take the snake out before you put the food in?
