Tubs: how big is too big?
I'm getting my first snake, a baby ball python in a few months. I intent to make a cage out of a sterilite tub. I've read that its better to get a small tub for smaller snakes (15 qt or something similar), so that it will feel safer. Does it make a huge difference? I already found a 28 qt tub in my garage and I was wondering if that would be too big? Obviously its not a big deal, as 15 qt tubs are only a couple bucks. Just wanted to know if I can use the 28 qt since I already have it.

I'd start with a smaller tub, then move up to the tub that you already have.
Have you seen this thread? It's great.

I use shoe box tubs for the first few weeks. After they eat a few times the 28 qt is fine...I've actually (in the beginning) put my babes right into a 28 qt tub without any trouble at all. just provide two hides and of course a water bowl big enough to hold them in securely...also if you use an old butter container or tupperware container just cut out a hole in the top, this also helps them feel more secure while they soak.
Best of luck!

Contrary to old school rumors hatchlings do very well in 28qt tubs after getting them started in smaller tubs.
We have all of our 2011's in 28qt tubs now and they all eat very well.
I also recommend not taping the heat pad to the bottom of a tub as that thread shows you, the heat source gets taped the the shelf the tub sits on, and the probe gets taped to the heat source.
I like to sterilize the tub once a month or so, it's pretty difficult to do that with the heat pad taped to the tub
