a little worried advice pls
Ok last night i changed out the substrate in all of my snakes tanks and now im having a slight issue with the bps temps. I put about 3 or 4 inches of cyprus mulch in the bottom of his tank and besides that the setup is the same. But the problem is on his hot side its only 84 and on the cool end its 78. THe humidity is at 46%. I got the cyprus mulch from a hardware store. Its the same thing that a very reputable breeder around my area uses and a huge bag of it is only 5 dollars. But now since i changed it last night my temps have been to low. Now i was having the same problem with the boas cages but their cages warmed up to where they need to be. Do you think i just need to allow the bps cage a little more time to warm up because its a bigger cage? Advice would be highly appreciated.

Why did you use such a thick layer of substrate? That is more than likely the reason that your temps are off.

Re: a little worried advice pls
You don't need that much substrate - an inch or so should be plenty.

Well i only used that much to make sure that all the glass in the bottom of the tank was covered because i didnt want him to push all the substrate to the side and have cold glass on the bottom showing. You think i should just take some of the substrate out and i should be fine?

How are you heating the tank? Substrate thickness should only matter if you're using under tank heat. How and where are you measuring the temps and humidity? A better description or a pic of the setup could help.

I have a red 150 watt red eating lamp bulb for heat nothing under. I have a large water dish on the heating lamp on and about an inch of Cyprus mulch. I have tin foil covering most of the cover of the tank.

The last 2 pics are of the thermometer and the probe and I know having the probe on the glass will make it a little off but it's also not right under the heat lamp. And I have to keep the unit up in that corner or else he knocks it down lol
