I messed up big, need advice

My Brother has around 100 pythons, most of them are different species of ball pythons and alot other pythons i have no clue. Him and his GF went on a cruise for 10 days on Monday, and he asked me to stop by daily and check the thermostats and water and just make sure no one was trying to get in. (He rents this place in a ghetto plaza just for the snakes) He told me not to feed them, but if I wanted to try it out to go in the freezer and thaw a rat out that is close to the big part of the body.

He gave me strict instructions not to go to my buddies house who has snakes, and theres no reason for any trips to pet stores so dont go there either. He said something about mites but I didnt think much of it. Well I ended up getting my friend at his place, and he wanted to feed a few snakes. The freezer was locked and I didnt get a key, so we went to the........pet store and bought 5 rats.

That was 2 days ago, I come in tonight after the bar and I notice black bugs everywhere in all the tubs on this one rack. I been googling and I see they are mites, and im wondering how the heck I get rid of em before he comes home and beats my a%$. Any tips? Can I get away with just cleaning the one rack? Is it really possible that pet store rats have mites?

    prevent a mite
    http://www.pro-products.com/index.ph...d=53&Itemid=59

empty all the cages, clean them, spray this in there, put in paper towels, put snakes in with just a water bowl, and if you can move the whole rack/s that theyre in to another room as to not infest the rest of his collection

also, before you put the snake back in its tub, make it crawl through a wet paper towel to remove any excess mites

when you know for a fact that theyre gone, put the rack back in the room, and make sure theyre all in their original spots with original items in the tubs

    and good luck

Goodluck getting rid of mites when there are a 100 snakes, that will be a massive undertaking, cleaning, spraying, soaking. You should have listened in the first place, sounds pretty irrisponsible to me, cut your losses, sounds like youve done enough already, plus the fumes from provent-a-mite can kill snakes so make sure you follow the directions on the can if you can (doesnt sound like you follow directions very well), Dont make things worse, just admit what happened so he can take care of the issue properly, better than you thinking you got all the mites only for him to find an infested collection when he gets home.

yeah, i was just gonna add that its probably best that you tell him now, because there isnt a good chance that your going to get rid of all them by the time he gets home

I would just tell your brother when he gets home. If they are mites he will take care of the problem properly. If they arent then you wont be in trouble and youre lucky. Next time be sure to listen lol

I agree with Spooky. At least the post is pretty well grammatically correct. That is refreshing.

If true, the OP is quite irresponsible for doing pretty much everything instructed not to do, and needs to tell the brother and let him handle it before the OP kills the snakes.

If its a true story considering you have no idea what your doing i would not use provent a mite. You will have a better chance making things worse. If your brother has an extensive collection he will know what to do. Also an infestation of mites in an entire rack would not happen over nite from pet store rats. Sounds like the mites have been there for a while.
