First Boa Suggestion...
Can anyone suggest a first Boa, for me ???
I want a true Boa (not a Sand or Rosy), but I want it to max out at 4-5 feet.. Is there such a Boa ??? I've been eyeing a Pearl Island...

Brazilian Rainbow Boas will max out about 5-6, but they don't get very large which makes them a little easier to handle. Plus the amazing iridescence makes them SUPER beautiful. A male BCI will also be around 5', and they are a really great snake too, I just got one and hes become one of my favorites.

As Joe said - Brazilian rainbow boas do not get very big, as well as some of the other insular Epicrates, such as E. fordi. You could also get a Sonoran boa - usually max out in the 4-5 ft range, stay fairly thin, and there are hypos, leopards, and anerys - and I should have some Sonorans born in the next 2-3 months if interested.

Some of the dwarf localities stay fairly small, like the pearl island or the ones bioteacher recommended. I don't really agree that common BCI stay under 5 feet. My male is only a year and a half old and is already pushing 4 1/2 feet. They usually get on average between 6-8 feet, give or take. I like the looks of Hogg Island boas but I think they are on the larger side of "dwarf" species.

I'd look into a male Hog Island (the females can get bigger, I've seen some that are ~7 feet) or even a male CA/Nic boa personally.

Thanks!!! He's not as big as the pic leads on, he's about 21" and around 1/2 - 5/8 of an inch thick... I love his coloring, especially at the tail. The Hypo gene makes him really pop!!! That's why it's always good to ask questions..

Re: First Boa Suggestion...
I suggest a male salmon Colombian boa. They stay around six feet, and are one of the nicest-looking morphs, IMO. Colombians also seem to be very docile.
