    New To Forum and Balls

    Hello,

I'm new here and have never owned a snake... Though I have kept many lizards and am just about ready for my first snake. Some of the lizards are; Leo's, anole, Uromastyx...

Truthfully I have always been afraid of snakes until now. I have developed an obsession and I don't even have one yet. I'm just doing my research as I have been and I am curious about mites. Its Hard to find info about them. I'm wondering if I take all precaution including a good captive breeder will my snake eventually get them? I would love to have a BP but I don't want any of his nasty mites to come with him.

    Please let me know.

I am waiting for the Canadian breeders expo till I grab one.

you can get mites at any time. some people never get them ,and others seem to have terrible problems. I wouldn't let it scare you away.

    Welcome!

Not to sound weird but you sound like my boyfriend: He REALLY didn't like snakes and was scared of them then he happened to meet Isabelle and I and we have been slowly expanding *our* collection (I bought him a Spider for his b-day a couple months back and he loves him).

You landed in the best niche of the internet to learn about these awesome snakes. Here's to you getting one soon!

    Welcome,

For mites I'd pick up a can of PAM (Prevent a Mite) and pre treat your new snake's enclosure and then if you ever happen to get mites you'll already have the PAM to get rid of them. I hear mites are a pain, but I wouldn't let them scare you from getting a snake (get one CBB and from a reputable breeder and you should be fine).

Re: New To Forum and Balls

    Wow quick responses! Thanks guys!

I guess the main thing I worry about is having the mites fill my furniture and having to toss it all then purchase new stuff. I couldn't find if they just stay with the snake or breed and fill everything like bed bugs.

Either way I will be getting one, or two... Cheers!

    Thanks again

They need the snake to survive so they won't take over your house or anything.

Perfect, that was my only concern. I can't wait to get my first balls. I may not wait for the expo as it is in September. This years hatchlings should be a perfect age by then I'm guessing though. I'll take a look at the Reptile expo this month but I hear the toronto breeder expo is a pretty awesome place to get inexpensive quality reptiles.
