What size tub
I have a 12 qt tub already but I jumped the gun and *thought* I was going to get a baby but I just saw a really pretty 2010 who weighs 800-900 grams. I may or may not get a baby and I may or may not get one from 2010. Depends. I need to know now what size tub I would need for a snake of that size?
Or better yet, can you give me a list of tub sizes for different sized snakes?
Babies can be in 12 qt I know but what about all other snakes?

I'd go with one of these:

The link is a set of 6 but you can buy them individually. this is a little on the big side, but should be fine.
You could also go with a 28qt or 36qt tub

Would a 400 gram BP be okay in a 36qt?

Re: What size tub
I understand the idea of just spending the money on one tub, to last them for good, but what if you get another snake? Tubs are reusable, so why not just get the correct tub size (I use a 17qt for my 300g) and then buy a new one when it's time to move up? They aren't like buying aquariums or boaphile cages by any means, so you're not sinking money into something.
Besides, the added security of a correct sized tub for your snake will help it be more consistent in feeding and let you get a feel for how best to control the aspects of the husbandry.

i start them with a 12qt then move my males to 28qt and females to 41qt when they outgrow the 12qt. a 400g bp in a 36qt tub should be fine i would just clutter it up some

Here is what I go by (what Ive learned from members here)
6 quart tubs - I dont use these, but I'd imagine they are best for brand new hatchlings, probably under 200 grams
12-15 quart tubs - I use these for my 2011 hatchlings at the moment, I believe these are the best for most hatchlings up to 400 grams
28 quart tubs - I will use these for my sub-adult females and my adult males. I'll keep them in these tubs until about 1000 grams. The males will likely stay in these tubs for the rest of their lives unless they get really huge.
41 quart tubs (or CB-70s) - I will use these for all of my females that are bigger than 1000 grams.
hope that helped. In general, the rule is if you get a tub thats too big for your snake, you can always provide a lot more ground cover so that there arent big empty spaces that stress out your snake. Ball pythons dont live in specifically sized rubbermaid tubs in the wild, so they can usually adapt to their environment. Since you have the choice, I would try to find the most suitable tub size for my snake. If youre getting a female that is already 800-900 grams, it might be more economical to just get a 41 quart since she will grow into it very soon.

I keep hatchlings in a 2'x2 cage and by 500 grams they are in a 4'x2 cage. I personally don't put much merit into the whole "big cages stress snakes". I have yet to have any of my snakes go off feed and they all are growing like champs. In the wild ball pythons don't live in small tubs.

Thanks I think I might just get a bunch of different tubs and ya know...get more snakes... ;P
No, but seriously I am trying to find a snake that is perfect for me and I still so have time since I don't have the heating equipment yet and I don't know when my aunt is going to buy it because I believe she is. I have the money for the snake already set aside so when that time comes I will be ready for that. =) I just need to figure out the tub situation. I don't want to get the flexwatt and have it be the wrong size and have to buy another one. We'll see.
