Have you had a T escape?

I'm thinking of getting a T. And I know I'd be fine as long as it's in it's cage and as long as it's out when I take it out.
But I'm thinking
Oh god what if it got out?
I wouldn't go back in my room.
(I'm afraid of spiders but I find them fascinating at the same time. I've also held one and didn't find it scary.)

So I'm just curious, have you had an escape? What happened?
Would you not recommend a T for me since I'd probably have a panic attack if it escaped? lol

I've never had an escapee. If you have a secure enclosure it's nearly impossible. Young tarantulas move VERY quickly, so if I ever have to handle for any reason, I do while sitting on the floor so that if they decide to leap off me, they won't splat on the floor (my versi did this and died a few months ago )

I actually use an empty 2 liter bottle (for like Pepsi, or any kind of soda) and I cut the bottom part off. I keep that top part (with the cap) handy, so that if they ever decide to take off I can catch them without squishing them. They usually find the wall of the 2 liter and climb up the wall to the cap area, after that they have no where else to go

I honestly suggest an older spider for you. I think a young sling would move too quickly and freak you out further. Try a 3-4 inch + rosehair or the sorts. They are very popular and known for being pretty docile and easily handleable. Good luck!

I was hoping to get a Green bottle blue. But all I can find of those are the slings.
Next to that was a Pink toed. Thats the kind I held at the white plains show. And I saw a rescue that was there was selling them so it would be cool to be able to rescue one.

I have both kinds and I love them. If you are okay with not handling for a while then get the younger ones! Just be extra careful if you have to handle them, and GBBs tend to be a little flightier species...even as adults.

The whole flighty part makes me nervous. If it escaped I wouldn't find it till I woke up with it on my face. Or worse like my grandmothers o.o
Maybe I'll go with an adult pink toed till I get my own reptile room that I can make escape proof. xD
Also when they flick hairs does it hurt? o.O

I am actually in the same boat as you! I am fearful of spiders but find them fascinating so we actually bought 2 of them about 6 weeks ago. Seeing as how I don't want to handle them and treat them as "look at only" pets the species didn't really matter. If we need to hold one or something like that my wife can do it (I guess I'm q big baby, give me a 15' burm anyday ). We got an OBT, and a Pinktoe. But we did buy slings, and if I did it over I would get slightly bigger ones that have molted a few times. Having them around really does alleviate the fear...

I think I will go with adult Ts then. :3 I feel like the smaller the more scary it is. o.o It makes no sense but at least I can keep track of a big one lol.

I have 10 Ts and I've never had hairs kicked on me, or a bite for that matter. I've been pooped on, which is another defense mechanism, but that's about it. From my understanding, as long as you shower and wash the area very carefully the kicked hairs aren't that bad.
