Temp gun recommendations?
Any recommendations for a good infared temperature gun? I'm questioning the accuracy of my thermometer and just want to be sure my BP is warm enough

I can't recommend a temp gun, but I can recommend a good thermometer that most of us on here use.
You can get these at Wall*Mart for 12. they have a probe, a ambient temperature sensor, and a hydrometer all in one package.

I bought a generic (read useless) IR temp gun last year and trashed it within two weeks. since then I've been using an RBI model and it's been great. reptilebasics.com is a great site for all kinds of husbandry equipment, and they make affordable, accurate temp guns.

Re: Temp gun recommendations?
Bought my temp gun from Lowes. Brand: General Model: IRT207 and did a comparison between the Accurite model I also have shown above, my Helix unit and temp gun and all measured within a differential of .5 degrees. Cost me about 30+ dollars and is probably over kill but my paranoia had gotten the best of me. Still a good investment overall for measuring temps of other related items(AC, engine turbos, etc etc,
Good Luck!

I use a Pro Exotics Tempgun PE-2 and love it. http://tempgun.com/products/pe2/
It's currently on sale for $35.

I use
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16896268001 22$
It reads within 1 degree of both of my acu-rite probes.

You should read this before buying. http://www.reptilebasics.com/tempgun_faq
the DS ratio is the biggest difference between IR guns. The rest is just how much and easy are the batteries to buy/find.
the best check for a thermometer would be a liquid crystal typr placed beside the probe on a temperature stable surface for 20 min and check them both. Most LC ones are +/- 0.5ºF for the cost they are hard to get more accuracy.
