I don't think it matters at all, a rat is a rat... at least on the inside.

I would just try to figure out what the litter sizes and breeding cycles are for different kinds, that way you might be able yo cut down on the number of breeders you need

They're all technically the same breed of rat(Norway). Just different mutations and strains.

And Hairless, dumbo, etc can fall into "Fancy" as well. Fancy rat just means it's a Domesticated Brown Rat, which is the same as a Norway.

I guess it depends what you plan on doing w/ the rats. Are they going to be strictly food or are you going to sell them as well? I find that rex and dumbos are easier to sell to the general public. But food is food to a snake, no matter what the rat looks like.

Theyre really all the same species? What about asf's, are they the same too?

ASFs are a different species. I don't think that they are true "rats," but I might be wrong about that.

They don't interbreed with either common Norway rats nor mice.

Yes. All Norway/Fancy/Dumbo/Rex/Hairless/etc etc are of the species Rattus norvegicus.

I'm not very knowledgeable about ASFs. But like what Redneck_Crow said, they're a different species as Norways. They're of the species Praomys natalensis. I believe ASFs are more commonly known as Natal Rats to the pet community. But I could be wrong.
