Pastel Ball??

I am looking for a nice male pastel baby to breed to my spider female..
what should i Look for in a pastel to insure a good quality animal, that will produce beautiful bees

With pastels yellow and blushing are key. Orange tends to turn brown.

You could also look for one with a nice reduced pattern.

To me this is what a great pastel looks like. She's still really small, but she's super yellow.


It's no guarantee that you will get great babies for a great pastel, but the odds are better with a great pastel.

Alternatively both of these pastels are really nice babies as well:

The one on the left has a nice banded pattern and the one of the right has a lot of blushing.

Yellow and blushing are what I look for, but how busy their patterns are is personal preference. Breeding for bees I would favor a banded/reduced pattern over a busy one though to help increase the chances that the resulting bee will have little spotting, but that's also a personal preference thing too.

Bright yellow color, nice blushings. If you like the more contrasting pastels some are bright yellow and dark black w/out much brown in them. There are many different submorphs of pastels: lemon, citrus, blonde etc.
There are different lines too from different breeders like NERD and Graziani. The main thing is to find an animal you like.
