    My bp stinks!

So I went and fed my male het pied the other day and he refused. Instead of throwing it out, I left the f/t rat in overnight, because he will usually take it then. I woke up the next day and the rat stunk to high heaven. I went to clean his tub and he was curled up on top of the rat. Anyways, he stinks like rotting rat that now sort of smells like stinky feet. I cannot get this smell off of him. Is there anything I can do, or do I have to endure it until he sheds? Maybe that will help get rid of the smell?

Bath time! Fill a bathtub full of 75-80F water (just a smidge warmer than room temp, NOT ACTUALLY WARM TO THE TOUCH) make him soak/swim in it for a good 5-10 minutes. If that doesn't work, add three drops of unscented dish soap. I don't like to use soap at all with snakes because of the way they absorb oils through their scales, but dish soap is what my plant books recommend for washing/dusting houseplants.

If he still stinks after that, yeah, you're kind of stuck with it for a while. And be glad they do shed.

    This.

Usually a lukewarm bath solves all smell problems. What I did for mine when I fed it live (and the mouse pissed all over my python) is put her in a tub with about 2" of sphagnum moss and 1" of warm water. The wet moss absorbed the water really well and after letting her soak for 40 minutes, the smell was completely gone and she smelled like sphagnum moss

Then, throw away moss (or flush down the toilet), and presto.

    Re: My bp stinks!

Thanks everyone. I'm going to give him a bath tonight. It's definitely him that stinks and not the tub. My parents have forbidden me to take him out until he smells better that's how bad it is.
