Yea shes pretty calm for the most part. Ive kept younger ones that like to flip out and run laps around there cages when you open them. But she always stays pretty calm when you open hers up.

Beautiful spider, man, I catch hobos and wolf spiders once in a while around here (when I find nice big ones anyway) and feed/care for them for as long as they last. Widows seem a little intimidating to me though, haha. Nothing to be trifled with, but you seem on top of your game

Really? I'd take a black widow bite over a hobo any day! Feeling sick and crampy is way better than having your skin rot and die off!

My house is about fifty years old, it's full of widows, and from what I've been told, the venom(at least the venom of one's indigenous to the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia) isn't all that much worse than a bee sting. Maybe it'll make you nauseated. That's what I've been told, and I grew up thinking they could put you into a state of paralysis and even kill you.

I was petrified they were all over the framing in my basement, but I never saw any in the upper two levels of my house. Than I woke up with one nestled into my chest hair. I nearly :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:, but they're not aggressive and I patiently "removed" him.

I live in Kelowna and see Black Widows all the time...Never been bit though.

Haha, it's definitely a goal not to get bit Don't make a habit of handling them, just put them in pretty glass jars and keep them like houseplants. I can certainly keep them alive longer, lol

First off I will say, if it has more than 4 legs, I'm not messing with it

However, even with the 6+ legged creatures I can see their beauty and admire it (at a distance of course :p ). About the only ones I can't hardly stand to look at are any type of roaches, millipedes and centipedes. Even in pictures they freak me out!

That being said, I think black widows are some of the most beautiful spiders in the world. They're very sleek and elegant looking to me.

I'm guessing she had already mate and ate (mated and eaten the male) before you found her? Or did you find her a mate and throw them together? How long from time of mating do they lay an egg sac? How long does it take for babies to come out of the sac from the time it's spun? (IIRC, the sacs are spun, right?)
