Hello all,
Long story short, One of my boyfriend's friends is going through a divorce. And as a result of human selfishness, the animals are suffering from this.
My boyfriend and I got a call 2 days ago to see if we wanted the snakes and if we could pick them up (1 granite burm, 2 adult normal bps, 1 adult super pastel bp). We went to pick up the snakes and 3 of the snakes were found in an ice cold room with only a little flexwatt to warm them. The room was probably outdoor temperature. I'm not sure what the actual temp was, but it was enough for me to wear a few layers of clothes. The last snake(possibly gravid) was left inside next to a fireplace. I believe that was her only source of heat. (From past visits, the snakes were in a warm room and well cared for with perfect husbandry. The friend was kicked out of the house, so the reptile room was at the wife's discretion. He had no means to take his snakes with him so the wife was left to 'take care' of all of the animals...which means she probably didn't do anything.)
We took the burm to a friend who owns a reptile store. We're not experienced with large snakes, plus she was highly aggressive.
The BPs seemed alright the day we brought them home, just a little underweight and cold (I.E. loose skin. And the possibly gravid female was less than 1000 grams...This isn't her first clutch and she's not a small female either).
Today was the first time I noticed the RI signs and mites. The mites have been treated with PAM. Anyway, the Super Pastel is making the typical RI popping noises. But I haven't seen any bubbles or mucus yet. The first Normal had a bubble or two. I can't hear any popping from her, but her mouth is a little frothy when she yawned. Lastly, the possibly gravid female is starting to show signs of RI. She has a very faint wheeze. You can barely hear it and it's not consistent, so I'm not entirely sure if it is RI. But seeing as the others have it, she probably has it too.
I plan to schedule a vet appointment. Is there anything I could do for them in the mean time? I bumped their hot spot up to 95 and ambient is 80.
Also, what is the approximate cost of a minor and major RI treatment? I just want a ball park figure to see what I'm in for.
I hope they all pull through. What are the chances of a successful recovery?
Thank you!
