Odd question...
can a one-legged rat survive?

Re: Odd question...
It depends on if you are talking about in captivity or the wild. In the wild, no. In captivity, if someone had the time to constantly assist and care for the animal, yes. It would survive.
The question becomes, what is it's quality of life? I'd say rather poor. Honestly, even if I greatly cared about the rat, I doubt I would make the animal endure that kind of life.
Think about hygiene, nutritional and hydration issues.

I am sure you have heard the old adage "there are no stupid questions". That adage is wrong. There are stupid questions and that's one. The question you should be asking is, should a one-legged rat survive and the answer is no. At the end of the day its a rat and the other rats won't take care of it so it should be euthanized or fed off. Of course you or another human could keep it alive but lets face facts. You aren't going to give it the attention it would need to have any quality of life. If you are merely trying to keep its heart beating you aren't doing it any favors. Definitely not going to get in a debate about this one like I often do but suffice to say I think this advice works equally well for humans as it does for rats. Luckily for us, humans are better than rats about caring for our sick and injured.

I'll agree, it should but put down, but you came off rather harshly.. Not trying to start a fight with you, and I agree with you 100% (personally I think any animal that is like that should...just MY OPINION) BUT yes, you did come off rather harsh...
X2 though. Put it down to stop its suffering, even if it doesn't seem like it is.

Based on the fact that TrueDatxD thanked my post it couldn't have been to offensive. Asking the wrong questions is a big pet peeve of mine. Another is taking offense on peoples behalf and yet another is taking things as offensive when non is intended. I didn't say TrueDatxD was stupid. I don't have anything to base that on except for one question. If I was judging a persons character on that alone I would be the stupid one. I ask stupid questions all the time, do stupid things all the time. My friends and family would not describe me as stupid. The question was stupid, that doesn't mean the person asking it is. Sometimes we know the answer but we just want to hear someone agree with us. Sometimes we think we know the answer but consider the matter important enough to ask for consensus. Based on that stupid question I would assume TrueDatxD is wise to have asked a question that they happen to have worded wrong. I can be a bit harsh sometimes, I don't think that's always a bad thing.

There are no stupid questions. This is a great place to ask any question that you want. Don't be afraid to ask. If you don't know, ask!

I'm going to take a guess and say that a mother rat probably over groomed a baby, and chewed it's legs off. You should cull, if that's the case. A one legged rat won't be able to hold itself up to go to the bathroom properly, and won't be able to move much, or eat with it's hands, or stand up to use a water bottle, or dig in bedding, or so basically anything a normal rat could. I would say a 3 legged rat would be fine, but no way would one with only 1 leg.
