If you're still concerned that he's going to be able to do it, you can easily cover the tape from the inside with the fine dusty stuff that sifts out of almost any aspen substrate. I don't bother. Even the uber insane Darth Jackass hasn't managed to tape himself to the half dozen holes I covered over on the front of his bin.
This. If the snake is capable of sticking his body through the holes to be able to reach or get stuck to the tape, the holes were too big to begin with, and you'd have bigger issues, such as getting a head stuck in the hole itself, or an escaped snake

We tape up hatchling tubs to hold in more humidity, and as they eat a few meals, have their first couple sheds, etc, the holes get opened up.
