    Bp losing individual scales

Any advice 4 a new snake owner. About a week ago I purchased a 2 mo old bp. After having the snake, "Genesis", 4 a few days I noticed mites crawling around on her. Come to find out, the pet store sold me a piece of furniture that had been infested. I've done all the recommended steps to rid her & her environment of these pests! But now she is losing individual scales! Help! I believe she has proper warmth & humidity. And I've done my share of research! I just want my new baby to be healthy and happy!

Exactly what product did you use to treat the snake for mites? This bit of information will help greatly.

Reptile Relief is the name of the product. The 1st night I noticed the mites, I put my snake in a luke warm bath & emptied her tank. I laid paper towels down & gave her a cardboard box for a hide. The next day I treated her & put her in a different tank so I could treat her furniture & enclosure. The pet store told me to rub her w/olive oil for the next 2 days after her 1st treatment & on the 3rd day do another treatment. It's been almost a week, her & her enclosure have been mite-free for 3 days.

The olive oil could very well be the reason the scales are coming off. You need to order a can of Provent A Mite and treat the enclosure with that. You DO NOT spray this on the snake. I'm pretty sure the mites are still there as reptile relief only kills the mites you can see. There are probably eggs still in your snake's enclosure. I would soak the snake in warm water with one drop of Dawn dishwashing liquid, this will help rid the snake of the mites.

I baked all the furniture in the oven 250 degrees for 30 min & sprayed everything w/ a 50/50 bleach-h2o and left her enclosure outside for 4 days. I've read a lot about the possibility of scale rot. Could this be a warning sign? Also, she was quarantined from her tank & furniture 4 about a week.

I'm not sure if that means it could be scale rot. I would get the Provent A Mite if I were you and treat the enclosure with that. If you do this, you must remove the snake and the water bowl before spraying the enclosure. There are directions on the can. Could you possibly post pictures of the area where the scales are coming off?

I could try, but its not that noticeable. Meaning u can't tell by just looking at her. When I hold her she leaves tiny, clear flakes on my hands and clothes. And at that, only 4 or 5 flakes. Her under belly seems to be a bit dry in patches, so I gave her a mist bath this evening.

I'm probably wrong but if the scales are clear it could
just be shed pieces from where the mites had been?? Again I might be wrong but just my thoughts. Do what the pros say first...lol

I had read that...my next step is the vet. One week of owning a snake, which is a dream come true, has turned out to be tougher than I had thought!
