Post Pictures Of Your Pet Monitors!

Recently fell in love with savannah monitors and tegus. Water monitors are freakin awesome too but way too big for me to own as a pet. Cant wait to get one of these bad boys in a few years when I move out! For now, I will have to live vicariously through you guys! So.. Post pictures of your favorite pet monitors or tegus, I wanna see em all! Include when you got them or some back story if you want

Heres a video of Brian Gundy and the only reptile he owns that he considers a pet- his black and white tegu.

This is my Sav (Sambuca). He was out for a stroll and my wife took a shot with her phone. Sorry for the crappy pic. He is getting massive, just look at the base of his tail! Sharp claws, or should I say razor talons. When he climbs on me for a visit you can tell because he usually leaves me bleeding. Lots of personality, likes to have a head scratch

Here are some pictures of my first tegu. Sadly he was stolen and I don't have any full grown pics. He was just coming out of his second hibernation and slept about 6-7 months each time. I still have an open case with our local sheriff's department so hopefully if they recover any large lizards they'll give me a call.

    A couple weeks old:

Just turned a year old, one of the few "clean" pics of him since he lived outside and loved to dig:

At the end of the same summer in his standard dirty skin:

Getting on into his second winter we started getting some nasty weather. After the 4th consecutive freeze I brought him inside and let him spend the rest of his hibernation free ranging the house.

This was one of his favorite spots:

Sometimes I'd catch him moving, usually when there was a fire burning.

    Dozing off by the fire:

After the fire burned down he'd either go back to his spot or climb up with me. Quite a few times I woke up with a tegu sprawled out on my chest and his head tucked under my chin. Such a sweet boy, he is greatly missed.

Ahhh They all look so awesome ! John, your pics of your tegu lying down beside the fire are too funny, reminds me of my friends dog. Im curious as to how it got "stolen"?

How big do sav's get? Anyone have any care sheets for them? I've been on here: http://savannahmonitor.org/ but wanted to make sure the information was correct.

Someone came onto my property, opened his enclosure and took him. It took me a while to convince the deputy that the tegu didn't "chew his way out".. The enclosure is escape proof, I made sure of that when I built the thing. The whole thing is fully enclosed and if you dig down there's hardware cloth covering the entire bottom. I just didn't think of protecting against theft and only had a sliding latch on the door, no lock. Here's a picture of the enclosure, it is now always locked!

Heres my 8 month old sumatran water monitor(Cpt Jack Sparrow). Love this guy! Had him since he was 3 weeks old. Never bitten or tail whip me, time, patience and food to gain his trust, now he considers me a playful friend who brings him food.
