Considering A Burm

Hello there giant python owners! I am looking into getting a burm finally for myself. I have plenty of experience with ball pythons and boas and have done my research. I already have a tank ready for it when it gets bigger (ps should i use lights or some flexwatt for heat? Haven't decided on it yet). Any advice on where to get some burms in Ontario? I am looking to get an albino or a caramel. Thanks for your time!

Well can't tell you where to get any in Ontario. But my suggestion is to find a breeder and buy a baby one. Also make sure you have someone who is prepared to handle the snake with you when he gets bigger. Also, I have never big fan of flexwatt. So i would stick to lights. But good luck!!

That must be one BIG tank!

Remember that if you get a baby you probably shouldn't house it in too large an area as it can stress the snake out.

Also make sure you have someone who is prepared to handle the snake with you when he gets bigger.

The tank is a custom enclosure i made a while back. Its to do until i cam afford myself a big pvc or build something alon those lines. Its 8x2x1.5 so its a good size. What do you guys know about rhp's? Been looking into those as well

Are you talking about rhp's for a PVC enclosure? Then yes. I use one with my Rainbow. I like it.

You need someone or a few people if you get a "monster" to help you handle the Burmese. Did You check local and state laws? In IL you can't have a snake over 15 feet. Which if you state has a law like this, can be avoided by getting a male.

Also. X2 or 3 I forgot... to getting a baby. Taking in a large Burmese as a first is hard. It gives you less room of leeway to learn about the snake without "angering" it
Most Burmese are very docile, but you have a few cranky ones, or some that will go crazy until there out of the cage and being held. Good luck to you though!

Oh yeah. One last thing. Burm bites hurt... not a shrieking pain but do hurt, as does being constricted. I had this happen when our Burmese smelt rat on me and freaked out. Always make sure You watch every detail. And wash your hands after you hold it's food.
