    Tap water safe?

    Hi everybody

First, i just want to introduce myself and thank you all for sharing your knowledge with all us noobs.

I just got my first ball python last week, and Im already crazy in love with it.

My question is, is tap water safe to use in the water dish and spray bottle used for misting?

    Thanks all

    Welcome to the forum.

I run my tap water through a filter but I believe straight tap water is safe. The down side to using tap water is that your water bowls will start to get some build up on them and can be a pain to clean.

Welcome to bp.net you have a good question, i'm not an expert but have never had a problem using tap water. As long as you change it out often with fresh it shouldent be an issue.

I use tap water just fine what I do it fill my large spary bottle the night before. Then when I change the water it has been sitting overnight in the spary bottle gets to room temp and easy to fill the water dish. Then I refill the spray bottle works like a charm and no buildup in the water bowls

It depends on the quality of your local water source. Places like Texas(my grandparents have a vacation house down there, so I've had the graces of runny bowels a great many times on my visits) have terribly unclean water. I'd say the same for mexico, too. I live in Minnesota, and the water is great up here. If I were you, I'd do a quick google search of the water quality in your area. If it has a terrible reputation, go with bottled water or something of the sort.

I agree with Hydrolicious, I use tap water because the tap water here is safe to drink. If I wouldn't drink it, I wouldn't expect my BP to either PS that's a beautiful looking bp you have! Congrats and Welcome

I have lived in Texas most of my life, and my first job out of college was water testing and filtration. The water here is by no means terribly unclean. Most places in Texas have hard water, which is what typically builds up in the water bowl, the mineral hardness that is, but it is perfectly safe to drink and not "unclean" at all. Many people actually prefer hard water to drink. In the US, public water suppliers have to chlorinate tap water enough to kill any bacteria or harmful substances, so yes, tap water is perfectly safe to use.

Also, cool looking bee! The pic is a little dark but as far as I can see the yellows look pretty nice! Welcome!

    Re: Tap water safe?

Hehe...yeah, I gotta put in a plug for Texas water as well. Grew up there...lived in many different places around the state. It has the same standards of drinking water as the rest of the country. That's not to say there aren't isolated areas with bad water, just like there are anywhere. Well water can be contaminated.

If the tap water you're drinking is fine for you, it's fine for your snakes. No worries.

    And welcome to BP.net!
