    Breeding siblings?

    Hello everybody !

Just one quick questen: is it okay to breed siblings? I ask this because people tend to sell pairs from the same clutch for a better price. Like, a guy have some lesser platinums for sale - females ~$450 and males ~$250, but also sell pairs (1.1) for a better price.

So yeah, any thoughts/answers? Thanks !

Depends on who you ask. Some people will say inbreeding doesn't cause any (or minimal) side affects in ball pythons, and others really try to avoid it at all costs. I know quite a few people who produce gorgeous healthy animals and also has bred a son/daughter back to a mother/father and etc. in order to get those animals. A brother/sister pair personally wouldn't bother me...

Inbreeding isn't a big deal with reptiles. It is a fairly common practice to breed a son back to the mom or the father to a daughter. Breeding siblings is also okay as long as you don't do it for too many generations. If you've been inbreeding for generations then you run the chance of birth defects.

A lot of breeders will try to sell a pairs that are from different clutches. Breeding sib to sib is ok as long as you don't keep inbreeding after that. You also want to make sure the initial breeding wasn't from inbreeding.
