Breeding direction.

So I've realized that with people breeding BPs for a living, I'm never going to be able to come out with the newest best thing (only doing this on the side and not as my job). So that has kinda put me off of breeding big multi-gene snakes (unless i just really like them of course). This has me thinking that if i'm not going to be able to create new stuff. Why don't i just improve on the old stuff? I have decided to just try to produce the best looking example of morphs that I like, one that i have decided I want to produce for sure is OGs. I'm already set up to breed them and I am really really excited to work with this morph. I haven't decided what other morphs I want to try to work on but I'm thinking another one may be Lesser. I'm just interested in some of your thoughts and opinions on this. Please none of the "It depends on what you like, it's all up to you" i understand that. I want opinions or thoughts on taking this path in breeding, not that you think it's up to me.

PS this isn't to say i won't be breeding multi-gene snakes (bc I will) but that will be mostly for me and not to sell. I guess i just want my focus to be on making great base morphs.

I honestly think thats a great idea. If you are ok with not making a profit and prices dropping significantly, especially on the cheaper morphs, then I say go for it. I don't want to breed for $$ but rather to produce what I feel looks good. I may not even sell of what I produce. So I thin kthat if you're ok with it and that makes you happy then do it.

It all starts and ends with quality, reputation and customer service are very important, but if you don't have quality animals to offer you'll find it more difficult to sell.

Single gene snakes are not that hard to sell, that is if you have a quality snake to offer.

Yea i understand I wouldn't make as much, but that also means I wouldn't be spending as much on multiple gene morphs too. I'm hoping that i could get my base morphs far enough to produce my own lines and even have people waiting for them, but that's a big goal
However to me, the fact that i can produce a one gene snake that people would be waiting on, would be much more satisfying than just having the new 5 gene snake.

I agree with you here. Unfortunately I think a lot of new "breeders" are in it for the "quick" cash. But props to you for thinking that way. Good luck!

I don't know actually, is there a way to tell? I bought them from a breeder that was moving and selling his collection.

I think it is the best to strive for the best quality snake one can create. It's not about the name of the morph it's about the quality of the morph. Look at the differences in pastels, you can tell who takes pride in their quality.

Nice! I have no idea other than to know the lineage. you could try to recontact the guy if you still have his email and ask him if he knows. i know most are compatible but some are not. thats about all you'll get out of me on OG's haha!

Very true, pastels would be a fun morph to work with too. It would take lots of time though to see if they actually brown out.
