    Dub Step: What Is It?

Does anythign other than techno-like music with a "wub wub wub" bass sound qualify as Dub Step? So far that's the only thing I find in common with all the songs flagged as Dub Step. Sounds like it should be called Wub Step instead.

It's a terrible trend in music that will hopefully be forgotten soon.

Re: Dub Step: What Is It?

Someone told me the other day that it was a mix between techno and hard rock. I have never heard it, so I don't know if that is correct. I do like techno, somewhat, but I don't like hard rock. I don't think that I would be a fan of dub step.

Yea i'm pretty sure that's true. I think anything with heavily modulated bass counts as dubstep. Most of it's crap but there are a few songs i really like.

that's an example of a decent remix. It's a remix of a passion pit song if you've heard of them. Anyway i like the melodic dubstep like this. All the stuff that just makes noise and doesn't actually go with the music is stupid.

pokemon dubstep for those of you that grew up with pokemon

For me dubstep is just a fun thing to listen to occasionally, like the pokemon dubstep just makes me laugh. Me and my friends joke around and listen to it. When asked what music i listen to i never reply "dubstep" i just think some of it is cool

dubstep is to hipsters what house music was to ravers in the 90's, in my opinion. I live in Madison, WI. it is FULL of hipsters, therefore dubstep is everywhere. In a liberal town like mine, we learn not to be too judgmental, hahaha..

I was talking to my dad about this the other day:
Music has been deconstructed soooo much over the years..
Think back to the huge symphonies..
Then there was big band stuff..
    Then there were rock bands..
Then there was dj's and electronic music
    Then there were rappers..
Now everything is at the click of a mouse...

    Not sure what comes next.

Where I live in Santa Cruz, dubstep is everywhere. Basically the trendiest form of electronic music right now, it has a lot of that wub wub wub bass sound as mentioned earlier. "Burners", aka people who are really into Burning Man, tend to be the biggest fans. Personally, I wouldn't choose to listen to it for the music, but the wife and most of my friends are into it, so I end up at shows just to be social.
