I think I'm done with Craigslist
Occasionally I come across someone who genuinely cares for their reptiles and want to find them good homes, that's how I got my new cresties, but usually there is a post that just upsets me.
More often than not it's someone who looking to re-home their snake with horrible setups (hot rocks are usually included). But right now there is someone trying to re-home their rabbits and people keep making comments about how they are going to end up as snake food.
I may be wrong and this could be a common occurrence, but I can't see most people big snakes searching craigslist hoping to get lucky. It's comments like that just upset me. I don't own anything large enough to eat a rabbit and if I did I would feed f/t and buy them in bulk like I do rats.
Sorry, this was just really bothering me so I had to rant about it a little.

I saw someone who had a red tail and a bp in the same 55 gallon tank. It was sad.

Re: I think I'm done with Craigslist
People who claim they are rescues and want animals instead of supplies, food, and donations... That creeps me out.

I see a lot of posts when I search Craigslist that pop up for a "snake" search because people are worried about someone feeding them to snakes. Here the big thing is kittens or puppies listed "not for snake food".
Too bad they don't realize this causes them to show up under snakes.
Another issue is that it has been assumed that AR activists have been posing as rescue, to get low cost snakes only to release them in populated areas to further hysteria and negative public image for reptile keepers.

Kittens, puppies, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, even chickens, ducks and pet parrots are all snatched up for cheap on Cragislist to be fed to the growing number of giant killer snakes that are being kept by mentally disturbed people like us. Don't you know anything ?

Re: I think I'm done with Craigslist
I agree CL is usually swarmed with ''creepers", but honestly I don't see a rabbit any differently than a rat? I know that sounds bad but here in Co. they are over populated in the country, maybe because they breed like rabbits? They are a food source and that's about it in my eyes sorry? But I agree should be bought in bulk instead of trying to feed somebody's pet to your pet lol
Now on the topic of cats and dogs etc... being used for snake food is insane and definitely immoral!
I totally agree that so many people that either don't take care of their reptiles or don't know how have them all over CL, and with crazy "re-home" fees too. Pretty sad they should be looking for a good home for their pet instead of trying to pick up some lost cash, because more often then not a vet visit is definitely in order...Pretty sad

Nope, my friends reticulated got ahold of his cat and went on a LONG food strike. I've also heard of a Burmese that would only eat cats and rarely dogs. It refused everything else..

I've owned rabbits for nearly 10 years, and I can't feed any snake a rabbit, I can't even bring.myself to cook one! But this is a thing people don't think of... cats are EXTREMELY overpopulated. Am I saying it's right to feed cats to snakes. No. My opinion is that only rodents should be food. But I know there's people out there who like you say cats are just like rabbits. (Don't start a fight, over this..)
To the OP... it's sad.. but this is what CL has become... before the pet store in a town near me closed the old owner would actually prowl CL for rabbits and rats for food and to breed..

The scumbag who ownes "High End Herps" also ran a pet rescue and fed some of the kittens and puppies to his burmese pythons. He is the reason people demonize snake owners for this. Just because one guy did it doesn't make all of us monsters.
