Strange odor
Hi,
I have a couple of ball pythons in a cage and when I went to feed them and clean out their cage, there was a very odd odor coming from the cage. It is definitely feces/urine. Any ideas what it could be?

Re: Strange odor
I think you meant to say "Not feces or urine". Does it look like one of them may have regurgitated a meal. That smells really bad.

If it's feces/urates then clean it! XD
I'm sure it was a misspelling, but it could be a lot of things... It could also be damp/wet substrate...
Oh and do them a favor and separate them, and put them in different tanks/tubs unless they are breeding

Yes, please seperate them. Bp's are solitary animals and are not meant to co-habitate. The odor could be urine/ feces that you might have missed when cleaning. That when coupled with the heat/humidity of an enclosure can make a heck of a stink.

yup.. If your cage smells anything other than clean... than there's really only one thing to do... . And they need their own space. If you only have the means to care for one ball python properly than you should probably only have one ball python.
Cheers.

If you meant to say not feces/urine, I have a idea or two... what type of enclosure is it? sometimes people mod enclosures or fail to provide enough ventilation and it takes on a musty old basement smell. This is to be avoided and if that is what is going on it is time to alter things as this is NOT a healthy environment at all.
The other is some plastics when enclosed have a funky smell all by their selves. If might want to clean and check every piece individually I'd not use any plastic giving off odd plastic odours.
If you have a couple of BPs is the same cage together (it is a touch unclear if they are together or in a divided cage or a single) it is generally not something a beginner should attempt.
