    Pied Markings?

    Hullo all,

I got this little dude (or dudette) just today from somebody who is moving. He/she was free, which is neat, but is a year old and only weighs 95 grams.

The lady I got him from also mentioned she had a second ball python that died...she said there was "white stuff" everywhere and he started refusing to eat then died.

    But all that aside....

His/her tail is nifty. Has some nice black stripes down both sides of the tail. Possible pied markings?

Sure maybe. You'd have to prove it out though. Just for reference I have a 100% proven het pied with those as well as 2 100% proven normals with them as well. Not the most reliable markers.

ok here is the only time I would even think about "pied markers"

I breed a het pied to something, I want to hold back some of the possible hets, some of the offspring have the different look to them, so I hold them back hoping their het pied

other than that, its useless to even look at a snake and think it has markers. there are possibly thousands of genes that cause how a snake looks, only a handful of het pieds even have "markers". the rest that have the look is just the combination of the other thousands of possible genes.

    Re: Pied Markings?

breeding a het pied to anything,,,i wouldent even think about markers.... think about it,,, those "markers" pop up anywhere.. the only way that i would even consider "het markers" is if i produced them myself (from a pied to normal),,, and could document, and stand behind my ofspring..... *to me*,, this 66% or whatever is just a pipe dream that was promoted to pass off a few normals.. sorry if i offend anybody.. unless its 100% het, you might as well as gamble on beach front property in arazona,,,LOL

You can never be sure about the pied markers. Some het pieds have them, some normals have them.

I took pictures of my three 100% het pieds and they don't have a definite marker. You could never look at them and say they were het pieds without knowing what they came from. One of them is the double het pied/albino, but I'm not sure which one was him -I think he's the last pic.
