    More Hospital Stuff...

So last night around 1130pm Mom calls me and says she's called an ambulance for Dad because he's having breathing problems again. As some of you may know, back in August he went to the ER for breathing problems and just last month my Mom was in the hospital as well with breathing issues.

Long story short he's stablized and recovering. They say he has pneumonia.

But now that I know he's not dying I am mad at him. You see after his first visit, it cared him so bad he quit smoking. My Mom did too. They are both life long smokers. When Mom was in the hospital I caught him smoking at the house. His reasoning was that therer were still some in the house and he couldn't justify throwing them away given $30 a carton. He said he would be done when they were gone. So I told him when Mom comes home he has to be done because she's gonna be on oxygen and you can't smoke in the house. He said I was right and he'd be done when she came home.

Well, my wife goes over every day during the week to help out with stuff. And she told me that he was smoking outside. And then last week she came home smelling like a bar and she said he was smoking inside again. So I said that when we went over for thanksgiving I'd lay the law down: No more smoking. Period.

Well, now there is not going to be any more. My wife spent last night with my Mom and I told both of them that I wanted every last cigerette gone. Throw them all out and that's what they did. Mom said he was smoking again because he was stressed. Well Dad needs to understand that their health and longevity is more important that his need to light up. There are other forms of stress relief.

I just can't believe how selfish and stubborn he can be.

    Anyways, please pray for us.

Good for putting your foot down! Not to defend your dad, but giving up smoking IS extremely hard, and support and help from family is definitely needed.

My mom gave up smoking a couple years ago, and the doctor prescribed her some sort of medicine to help with the cravings. Between the medicine's side effects and the nicotine withdrawals, everyone in the house was on eggshells for a good month, she was so grouchy. But she got through it and we're all glad of it, and she's stayed away from cigarrettes since then.
