They need nothing to use to shed, I use tubs with a water bowl and paper towels, no hides at all, and my snakes shed in perfect one piece sheds almost every time.
Because half log hides are a sham, they don't do what they are intended to do which is hide the snake.just curious.. whats your reason for switching hides?
A good hide will have only one entrance for the snake to have to guard.
